The Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in several villages throughout coastal Karnataka. Many festivities are planned out around this unique sporting event which is held between the months of November to April. Traditionally the Kambala used to be a non-competitive event held on paddy fields filled with slush and mud. These days though, some villages are equipped with specially prepared tracks and also night racing under flood lights!
